The Garrard County Golden Lions are taking a road trip to take on the West Jessamine Colts at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Garrard County's win against Lincoln County wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Golden Lions had just enough and edged out the Patriots 2-1. That's two games straight that the Golden Lions have won by just one run.
Emily Hounshell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 17 Ks.
At the plate, Garrard County's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ashlyn Scott, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
West Jessamine came out on top against Paul Laurence Dunbar on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fourth inning. The Colts were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Bulldogs. Considering the Colts have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Michaela Tate made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Tate was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, West Jessamine got a massive performance out of Paige Hobgood, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Hobgood has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emerson Collins, who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
The win made it two in a row for Garrard County and bumps their season record up to 10-8. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for West Jessamine, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Garrard County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .347. However, it's not like West Jessamine struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Garrard County couldn't quite finish off West Jessamine in their previous matchup back in March and fell 7-5. Can the Golden Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
