Pocahontas County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 18 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They fell 11-8 to the Richwood Lumberjacks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Logan Keatley was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Keatley was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Noah Dilley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Richwood, the win got them back to even at 5-5. The victory continues a trend for them in their matchups with Pocahontas County: they've now won seven in a row.
On Richwood's side, Parker Giles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. Giles is becoming a predictor of the Lumberjacks' success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Wayne, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grady Hall, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Coincidentally, Pocahontas County and Richwood will both be playing Mount View the next time they take the field. The Warriors will host the Golden Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Lumberjacks will play them later in the day, at 6:00 p.m.
