Softball Game Preview: Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars vs. Avon Braves

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars will challenge the Avon Braves at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Honeoye Falls-Lima had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Canandaigua Academy on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Braves a 16-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Braves: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Avon got the win against Livonia on Monday by a conclusive 9-2.

Jessie Crye was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 19 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-5 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Avon let Abby Schutz and Kyleigh DeRider run wild. Schutz went 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI, while DeRider went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. That's the most hits Schutz has posted since back in April. Rylie Miller was another key player, going 1-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Honeoye Falls-Lima now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Avon, their win bumped their record up to 12-3.
