Softball Preview: L.E.A.D. Academy Lions vs. West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors
L.E.A.D. Academy has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Atmore Christian scored an imposing 15 runs on Friday, L.E.A.D. Academy still came out on top. L.E.A.D. Academy had just enough and edged Atmore Christian out 16-15.
Sophia Harold was excellent, going 3-for-4 with a triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Macy Schepper, who went 3-for-4 with a double.
Meanwhile, West Florida Baptist Academy stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They put the hurt on Central Christian with a sharp 11-1 win.
Kaylee Byrd was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Byrd has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive pitching appearances. Byrd was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Victoria McAlarney, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cali Ellis, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
L.E.A.D. Academy's record now sits at 4-6. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, their record now sits at 9-2.
