Grant Haymore was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Pacheco, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. St. David is undefeated when Pacheco posts two or more runs, but 5-8-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Xavier Martinez, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Valley Union fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against St. David on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Blue Devils just can't catch a break and have now endured six defeats in a row.
Moroni Flores was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Zion Morre, who went 1-for-5 with three stolen bases.
St. David is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-8-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Valley Union, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10-1.
St. David came out on top in a nail-biter against Valley Union in their previous meeting on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
