Basketball Recap: Columbus East Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Mooresville came into Friday's match looking for another win against Columbus East, but Keaton Lawson wouldn't allow it. The Columbus East Olympians narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Mooresville Pioneers 65-62 thanks in part to Lawson, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. What's more, he also racked up eight assists, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.

Carter Patterson was another key player, going 9 of 19 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.3 points per game.

Mooresville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aj Defur, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brevon Burns, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points.

The victory was the third in a row for Columbus East, bringing their record for this year to 8-1. As for Mooresville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-5.

Columbus East will square off against Floyd Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. As for Mooresville, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 74-60 win against Monrovia on the 4th.
