Baseball Recap: Nichols' Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

Nichols fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against St. Mary on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 2-1. The Vikings' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Ross Yoshida was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double.

Yoshida wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Reed Coene, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Nichols' loss dropped their record down to 12-5. As for St. Mary's, their record now sits at 7-10.
