Softball Recap: Dowagiac Picks Up 16th Straight Win on the Road

20 must be Dowagiac's lucky number: they beat Sturgis with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Chieftains blew past the Trojans 20-5. The win continues a trend for the Chieftains in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won nine in a row.

Addie Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned runs off four hits. Wilson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Marlie Carpenter, who went 3-for-4 with five runs, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. Bree Behnke was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

Dowagiac kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Dowagiac pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Sturgis, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Looking ahead, Dowagiac will be playing at home against Three Rivers at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Sturgis, they will face off against Niles at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
