Soccer Game Preview: Camelback vs. Desert Ridge

The Camelback Spartans will take on the Desert Ridge Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Wednesday, Camelback didn't have quite enough to beat Browne and fell 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now lost six in a row.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Desert Ridge faced off against Gilbert on Wednesday. Desert Ridge fell just short of Gilbert by a score of 3-2. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Tigers are ranked 28th).

Caden Dye and Rylee Davis Barrett scored both of Desert Ridge's goals, bringing their combined season tally to nine goals.

Desert Ridge dropped their record down to 7-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Camelback, their loss dropped their record down to 1-8.

Camelback was able to grind out a solid victory over Desert Ridge in their previous meeting back in January of 2020, winning 2-0. Will Camelback repeat their success, or does Desert Ridge have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
