Softball Game Preview: Lawrence County Red Devils vs. Scottsboro Wildcats

The Lawrence County Red Devils will be taking part in a tournament against the Scottsboro Wildcats at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lawrence County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Russellville get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Red Devils, who have now won four matchups in a row.

McKinley McCaghren was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with six RBI and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Lawrence County let Alivia Templeton and Bella Cross run wild. Templeton got on base in all three of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Cross went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most runs Templeton has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Templeton, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs.

Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Scottsboro made easy work of Fairview on Monday and carried off a 9-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Aggies: they've now won five in a row.

Scottsboro's victory bumped their record up to 30-19-1. As for Lawrence County, their win bumped their record up to 41-9-1.
