Softball Recap: William Blount Governors vs. Maryville Red Rebels
William Blount managed to slip by Maryville the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Governors lost 8-1 to the Red Rebels on Thursday. The Governors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Red Rebels earlier this season, when they won 9-7.
Katee Owens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, William Blount saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trinity Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Chloe Merriman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
William Blount's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-12. As for Maryville, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.
