Recap: Centennial Broncos vs. Sandy Creek Cougars
The Centennial Broncos fought the good fight in their overtime match against the Sandy Creek Cougars on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 37-34. Centennial was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Sandy Creek apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
Centennial's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Devin Slawnyk, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds. Alex Hirschfeld was another key contributor, scoring 8 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Sandy Creek found their leader in underclassman Oliver Oglesby, who scored 10 points along with 7 rebounds and 6 blocks. The contest was Oglesby's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Zachery Corman, who scored 6 points.
Centennial now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Sandy Creek, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Centennial will head out on the road to face off against Cross County at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sandy Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Shelby-Rising City at 3:30 p.m.
