The Pacifica Tritons will face off against the Bishop Diego Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pacifica is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If Pacifica beats Bishop Diego with 42 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Tritons blew past Simi Valley 42-20 on Friday. Considering the Tritons have won seven games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
A big part of Pacifica's victory came down to the chemistry between Taylor Lee and his top target Anthony Jacobs Jr. Lee threw for 375 yards and two TDs while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt while Jacobs Jr picked up 171 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Jacobs Jr really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Alijah Royster, who gained 114 total yards and a touchdown.
Pacifica didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Simi Valley to a completion percentage of just 39.1%. The team can thank Max Magana for the heroic effort on defense: he. Pacifica wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 56.7%.
Bishop Diego hadn't beaten St. Bonaventure on the road since August 30, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Cardinals walked away with a 35-27 win over the Seraphs.
Pacifica better keep an eye on Oscar Anoai Mauia. He was instrumental in Bishop Diego's win, rushing for 120 yards and two touchdowns. That's the most rushing yards Anoai Mauia has posted since back in August. Samuel Boeddeker got in on the action as well, returning a kick for a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Bishop Diego, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Boeddeker, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Pacifica's record is now 9-0. As for Bishop Diego, their record now sits at 8-1.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Pacifica has relied on air attacks this season and has averaged 279.8 passing yards per game. Bishop Diego, on the other hand, has relied on a stout run game: they average 202.6 rushing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Pacifica beat Bishop Diego 21-14 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tritons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
