Mary Peyton Hodge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hollis Fitzgerald, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Chloe Smith, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Pisgah earned a 7-4 victory over Central Cabarrus on Tuesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bears.
Sadie Messer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Alexis Markos was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. Rylee Campbell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Oak Grove's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Pisgah, their record now sits at 16-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oak Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .327. However, it's not like Pisgah struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
