Taft hasn't had much luck against Granada Hills Charter recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Toreadors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Highlanders at 3:00 p.m.
Taft fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Chatsworth last Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chancellors by a score of 5-4. The Toreadors' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

Chiara Cioffi put in work no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 8.1 innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Katelyn Levine was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Kimi Meneses also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Granada Hills Charter sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Downey on Saturday. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Granada Hills Charter also got a great performance from Addison Moorman as she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Annabella Ramirez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Granada Hills Charter's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Taft has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Granada Hills Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Taft might still be hurting after the 14-0 defeat they got from Granada Hills Charter when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Toreadors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
