Softball Recap: Oshkosh North Comes Up Short

Oshkosh North couldn't beat Appleton East on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the first inning. The Spartans fell 10-6 to the Patriots. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Emma Niemczyk was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Fabiano, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Oshkosh North has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. Appleton East's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Oshkosh North is set to face off against their familiar foe Fond du Lac at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Appleton East will challenge rival Appleton West at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
