Preview: Grove City Greyhounds vs. Westerville Central Warhawks
The Grove City Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Westerville Central Warhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Grove City has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Grove City scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Hilliard Darby 77-54. That looming 77-54 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Grove City yet this season.
Grove City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kevin Gallagher led the charge by scoring 17 points. The match was Gallagher's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kraig Gilbert, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, even though Olentangy scored an imposing 72 points on Friday, Westerville Central still came out on top. Westerville Central managed a 76-72 win over Olentangy. Given Westerville Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Olentangy is ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grove City pushed their record up to 5-1 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. As for Westerville Central, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Grove City ended up a good deal behind Westerville Central when the teams last played back in January, losing 48-34. Can Grove City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
