Basketball Recap: Newberry Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Victory

Newberry came tearing into Monday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bradford Tornadoes by a score of 65-52. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 54-46 last Friday.

Newberry got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandy Whitfield out in front who went 6 of 13 on her way to 24 points and four steals. The game was Whitfield's 16th in a row with at least ten points. Jada Brown was another key player, going 8 for 13 en route to 19 points.

Newberry is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.2 points per game. As for Bradford, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-6.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Newberry Panthers face off against the Buchholz Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bradford has already played their next match (against Williston), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
