Softball Recap: Vidor Triumphs

Vidor hadn't done well against Little Cypress-Mauriceville recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Pirates walked away with a 6-3 win over the Bears. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Bears on March 6th, they had to take a 9-3 defeat.

Peycin Wilkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tylen Cassel, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Daphney Arrant, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Vidor's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Little Cypress-Mauriceville, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Vidor is set to challenge their familiar foe West Orange-Stark at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Little Cypress-Mauriceville will square off against rival Lumberton at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
