Basketball Recap: Sanger Extends Winning Streak to Four

Sanger hadn't done well against Centennial recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Sanger Apaches walked away with a 73-66 victory over the Centennial Golden Hawks. For the Apaches, this counts as revenge for the 53-44 win the Golden Hawks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Centennial's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Acen Zuniga, who went 6 of 12 en route to 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Zuniga also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Centennial is 10-2 when he posts at least five steals, but 1-3 otherwise. Derek Jimenez was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven assists and three steals.

The victory (which was Sanger's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-4. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Centennial, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-5.

Sanger will head out to challenge Bullard at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sanger is facing Bullard at the right time seeing as Bullard is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Centennial, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Garces Memorial at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Centennial's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six games.
