Baseball Game Preview: Fike Demons vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

Fike has gone a perfect 6-0 against Smithfield-Selma recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Fike Demons are taking a road trip to challenge the Smithfield-Selma Spartans at 6:00 p.m. Fike will be strutting in after a victory while Smithfield-Selma will be coming in after a loss.

Fike will bounce into Tuesday's contest after beating South Johnston, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. Fike's pitcher stepped up to hand South Johnston a 4-0 shutout on Friday.

The result came thanks to Evan Ferrell's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Fike's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Spencer Bass, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Charlie Maddrey was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 23rd straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 15-0 to Hunt.

Smithfield-Selma saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Thigpen, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Fike, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

Fike took their victory against Smithfield-Selma in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 15-1. Does Fike have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithfield-Selma turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
