Baseball Recap: Estancia Takes Down Foothill Tech in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Estancia had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Foothill Tech Dragons with a sharp 11-1 victory. The win was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on four straight.

Nico Viramontes made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has become a key player for Estancia: the team is 6-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12 otherwise. Viramontes was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Sawyer Atkinson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Estancia is 7-1 when Atkinson posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sean Sweeney, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Estancia's record is now 17-13. As for Foothill Tech, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-14.

Estancia has already played their next matchup, a 4-3 victory against Pacifica Christian on the 23rd. Foothill Tech does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
