Preview: Woodson Warriors vs. Anacostia Indians

Woodson is 0-9 against Anacostia since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Woodson Warriors will be home for the holidays to greet the Anacostia Indians at 5:30 p.m.

Woodson's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They took a serious blow against Banneker, falling 45-11. Woodson has not had much luck with Banneker recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Anacostia waltzed into their contest Saturday with three straight wins but they left with four. They came out on top against Heritage by a score of 45-34. Given Anacostia's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while Heritage is ranked 254th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Anacostia's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shayonna Nave, who scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Nave scored 15 or more points. Nayjah Duvall was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.

Woodson's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Anacostia, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-2.

Woodson was dealt a bruising 55-24 defeat at the hands of Anacostia in their previous matchup back in January. Thankfully for Woodson, Emani Parrish (who scored 17 points along with seven assists and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
