Baseball Game Preview: R.A. Long Lumberjacks vs. Hockinson Hawks

The R.A. Long Lumberjacks will square off against the Hockinson Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. R.A. Long will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

On Wednesday, R.A. Long needed a bit of extra time to put away Washougal. They had just enough and edged out the Panthers 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Lumberjacks in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Hockinson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They fell 5-2 to Mark Morris.

Graham Learing was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Anthony Cline was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. That double was his first of the season. Ethan Wall was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Hockinson's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for R.A. Long, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.

R.A. Long skirted past Hockinson 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Lumberjacks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
