Basketball Recap: Western Harnett Comes Up Short

Western Harnett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 43rd straight loss dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 78-40 loss at the hands of the Pine Forest Trojans. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 78-39 back in December of 2024.

Pine Forest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Christian Baynes, who almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine rebounds. Those 24 points gave Baynes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Angelo Jones, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 boards.

Western Harnett's defeat dropped their record down to 0-18. As for Pine Forest, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Western Harnett Eagles face off against the Triton Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Triton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight games. As for Pine Forest, they will head out on the road to take on E.E. Smith at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Pine Forest is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.6 points per game this season.
