Makenna Meadows made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
In other batting news, Margaret Jenkins was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Kirsten Aldridge, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Calvary Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Land O' Lakes on Friday. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Gators. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won 12 matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Lake Region, Calvary Christian also got a great game from a two-way player: Morgen Talley. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). Those 17 strikeouts gave Talley a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Claire Caoili was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Alexis Camilleri was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
Calvary Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Lake Region's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Calvary Christian, their record now sits at 19-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lake Region has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 10.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calvary Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
