Preview: Zane Trace Pioneers vs. Purcell Marian Cavaliers
Zane Trace is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Purcell Marian is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Zane Trace Pioneers will take on the Purcell Marian Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Zane Trace was able to grind out a solid win over Madison, taking the game 24-14.
Zane Trace got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Langley out in front who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 112 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaden Dunn, who picked up 95 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Purcell Marian put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Madeira 55-14 at home.
Purcell Marian can attribute much of their success to Sonny Ward, who threw for 248 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and Jayel Harris, who rushed for 146 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Another player making a difference was Quindel Phillips, who rushed for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Zane Trace's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Purcell Marian, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
