Basketball Recap: Russell Takes a Loss

Russell has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were outmatched by the Blazer Tomcats and fell 70-41. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tomcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-39 last Wednesday.

Despite the defeat, Russell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kenley Kouns posted ten points. Kouns is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games she's played. Mila Wheeler also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

Russell's loss dropped their record down to 19-6. As for Blazer, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Russell will welcome Lawrence County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Blazer, they will be playing at home against Boyd County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
