Softball Recap: Shady Spring Tigers vs. Independence Patriots

Shady Spring had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged the Independence Patriots out 12-11. 12 seems to be a good number for Shady Spring as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Raegan Lane made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Lane has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. Lane was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Annabelle Sturgill was incredible, going 1-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Brooklynn Blankenship was another key contributor, going 1-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.

On Independence's side, they got a big performance out of Alli Hypes, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Warden, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Shady Spring is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 16-12.
