Softball Game Preview: Cherokee Indians vs. Phil Campbell Bobcats

Cherokee and Phil Campbell are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Indians will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against the Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. The timing is sure in Cherokee's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Phil Campbell has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.

Cherokee will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Covenant Christian on Monday. The Indians came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 10-5.

Libby Collum made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Tatum Lockett and Layla Gorman did most of the damage at the plate: Lockett went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run, while Gorman scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Phil Campbell took on Mars Hill Bible on Monday. The Bobcats came up short against the Panthers, falling 10-3.

Bella Welch was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Georgia Motes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Cherokee's victory bumped their record up to 13-17. As for Phil Campbell, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-15-1.

Everything went Cherokee's way against Phil Campbell when the teams last played back in March, as Cherokee made off with a 13-0 win. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bobcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
