The Judson Rockets will challenge the United Longhorns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
If United heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Judson took over last week. The Rockets came out on top in a nail-biter against Clemens on Friday, sneaking past 31-28. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rockets have posted since October 24, 2024.
A big part of Judson's victory came down to the chemistry between Dominique Davis Jr and his top target Davis AK. Davis Jr threw for 203 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 80% of his passes while AK gained 84 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, United had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They strolled past the Bulldogs with points to spare, taking the game 38-20. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Longhorns' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 159th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 577th).
United's win came from a few key players Judson will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jorge Luna, who threw for 272 yards and four touchdowns. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last five games he's played. Colt Lozano was in the mix as well, providing United with two scores.
United didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Alexander to a completion percentage of just 36%. The team can thank Kayden Serna for the heroic effort on defense: he. United wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 54.1%.
United didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Ethan Estrada and Serna. United got some further help from Deven Rodriguez: he made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Judson's record now sits at 4-6. As for United, their record is now 8-2.
Everything came up roses for Judson against United in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, as the squad secured a 51-21 win. Will the Rockets repeat their success, or do the Longhorns have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
