Basketball Recap: Mountainair Mustangs vs. Corona/Vaughn Cardinals
After some red-hot attacks on offense in their last four matches, Mountainair finally came back down to earth on Friday. They were dealt a 58-14 defeat at the hands of the Corona/Vaughn Cardinals. The Mustangs have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meetings.
Mountainair got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Amanda Hamilton and Kambria Kayser, who each put up five points. Gabriella Knoten held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Harper Dunn continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Corona/Vaughn, almost dropping a triple-double with 16 points, 21 boards, and nine blocks. Dunn's big performance that evening made it 12 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Lightfoot, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists.
Mountainair's loss dropped their record down to 10-19. As for Corona/Vaughn, their win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-3.
Mountainair does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Corona/Vaughn, they will take on Logan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
