Baseball Recap: Cedar Springs Extends Winning Streak to Four

Cedar Springs came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured an 8-7 W against the Greenville Yellow Jackets. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Ryan Mullins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Austin Alcumbrack was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one double. Cedar Springs is 3-1 when Alcumbrack posts two or more runs, but 6-20 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Callen McCulloch, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

Cedar Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cedar Springs pushed their record up to 9-21 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 18-16 record this season.
