Softball Game Preview: Slippery Rock Rockets vs. Grove City Eagles

The Slippery Rock Rockets will venture away from home to challenge the Grove City Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Slippery Rock hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Tuesday as neither Slippery Rock nor Sharon made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Rockets came up short against the Tigers, falling 12-0. The contest marked the first time this season in which the Rockets were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Grove City ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Jamestown 4-2. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mighty Muskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Taylor Thompson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Hallie Rihel was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025.

Slippery Rock now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Grove City, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Slippery Rock came up short against Grove City in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, falling 8-3. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
