Softball Recap: Velva/Drake/Anamoose's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Velva/Drake/Anamoose extended their winning streak to eight on Friday, bumping their season record up to 8-0 in the process. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Thompson Tommies. Considering the Aggies have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Emma Balas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Velva/Drake/Anamoose got a big performance out of Fallon Hudkins, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Grace Balas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Velva/Drake/Anamoose always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .514 or higher in five consecutive matches.

As for Thompson, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-2. The game marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

On Thompson's side, Claire Kolling was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Looking ahead, Velva/Drake/Anamoose will square off against Hillsboro/Central Valley at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Thompson, they will head out on the road to face off against Harvey at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.
