Baseball Game Preview: Head-Royce Jayhawks vs. Oakland Tech Bulldogs

The Head-Royce Jayhawks will take on the Oakland Tech Bulldogs in a tournament on Saturday. Head-Royce's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Oakland Tech's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Oakland Tech will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Head-Royce extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Jayhawks walked away with a 5-1 victory over Redwood Christian.

Ezra Goldfarb was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Goldfarb was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Graham Sanger, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Oakland Tech ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out St. Joseph Notre Dame 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since May 28, 2024.

Jordan Smith was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Issac Estow was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for Oakland Tech and bumps their season record up to 6-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Head-Royce, their record is now 6-2.
