Baseball Recap: Raton Tigers vs. St. Michael's Horsemen
Raton lost a close one when they played last Saturday but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 16-1 walloping at the hands of the St. Michael's Horsemen. Raton has not had much luck with St. Michael's recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Jacob Mattorano was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Mattorano was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.
Mattorano wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Azden Romero, who went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
On St. Michael's side, Lucas Stoll looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
At the plate, Jackson Heath was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs, and four RBI. Joaquin Sena was another key contributor, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.
Raton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for St. Michael's, their win was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-5.
