Volleyball Game Preview: Placer Hillmen vs. Nevada Union Miners

The Placer Hillmen will venture away from home to take on the Nevada Union Miners at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Placer came up short against Roseville and fell 3-1. The Hillmen haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

The match finished with set scores of 25-9, 25-18, 23-25, 25-18.

Placer's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Morgan Boyme, who had 12 digs and two aces, and Liv Duchaine, who had ten digs. Esme Ledbetter also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Meanwhile, Nevada Union had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 3-0 win.

The final score came out to 25-16, 25-12, 25-12.

Placer's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Nevada Union, the victory got them back to even at 14-14.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Placer has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Nevada Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Placer beat Nevada Union 3-1 in their previous matchup back in September. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hillmen since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
