Basketball Recap: Joppa-Maple Grove Rangers vs. Shawnee Redskins
Joppa-Maple Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 25th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 44-21 to the Shawnee Redskins. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rangers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 56-22 back in December of 2024.
Despite the loss, Joppa-Maple Grove saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaylea Anderson posted 11 points.
Shawnee's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Emma Young, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Young has scored at least a third of Shawnee's points. Eliza Ford was another key player, putting up three points along with six boards and five steals.
Joppa-Maple Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 0-12. As for Shawnee, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Joppa-Maple Grove wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 45-41 loss against Cobden on the 24th. As for Shawnee, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-35 victory against Northside Baptist Christian on the 24th.
