Baseball Recap: Bennett Extends Winning Streak to Three

Bennett had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Mitchell Marauders a 21-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Evan Garner and Rafael Ibarra were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Garner struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ibarra tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those six strikeouts gave Garner a new career-high. At the plate, Garner earned two runs and one stolen base, while Ibarra earned three runs and one stolen base. Ibarra has become a key player for Bennett: the team is 10-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, Forrest Smith was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Mathis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Bennett always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .679. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Bennett's record now sits at 14-9. As for Mitchell, they dropped their record down to 3-18 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Bennett does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mitchell, they will welcome Arvada at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.24 runs per game on average), something the Marauders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
