Baseball Preview: John Jay Patriots vs. Somers Tuskers
The John Jay Patriots will venture away from home to challenge the Somers Tuskers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Somers took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on John Jay, who comes in off a win.
While Patriots fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Saturday's season opener. They put the hurt on Walter Panas with a sharp 8-0 win on Saturday. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Spencer Natoli tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Alex Jendras was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shane Driscoll, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, Somers came up short against Clarkstown North on Saturday, falling 11-3. The Tuskers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
John Jay skirted past Somers 5-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
