Yulee hasn't had much luck against Baldwin recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Indians at 6:30 p.m. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Yulee's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Tuesday's struggle, when Beachside hitters got past them. The Hornets sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 victory over the Barracudas on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hornets have posted since March 14th.
Jade Fisher and Ava Martyn did most of the damage at the plate: Fisher went 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run, while Martyn went 2-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. That's the most doubles Martyn has posted since back in March of 2024. Alani Goicoechea was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, it was close, but on Tuesday Baldwin sidestepped Middleburg for a 5-3 victory.
Hayden Peebles spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits.
At the plate, Jazmine Ramos-Merced was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Screws, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Baldwin has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Yulee, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
Yulee might still be hurting after the 15-3 loss they got from Baldwin when the teams last played back in March of 2021. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
