Baseball Recap: Florence Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Florence ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Brady Bulldogs 7-6. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 on Tuesday.

Weston Underwood and Ethan Miller were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Underwood didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Miller pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Underwood has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Underwood went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Miller went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Florence is undefeated when Underwood posts two or more runs, but 6-13-1 otherwise.

In other batting news, Florence let Ethan Hausenfluck and Dane Gola run wild. Hausenfluck got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Gola got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Hausenfluck is becoming a predictor of Florence's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 9-12-1 when he doesn't). Terry Parker was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.

The win made it two in a row for Florence and bumps their season record up to 11-13-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Brady, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-19-2.

As of now, neither Florence nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
