Baseball Recap: Cobre's Victory on Wednesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Cobre had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Hatch Valley Bears. That's more bragging rights for the Indians, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Cameron Ortiz was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Zayden Jimenez was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those six RBI gave him a new career-high. Adrian Alvarado was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

Cobre was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Cobre's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hatch Valley, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-13.

Looking ahead, Cobre will face off against Varsity Opponent at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hatch Valley will be paying especially close attention to the Indians' game: after the Indians face off against Varsity Opponent, they'll take on Hatch Valley again at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
