Softball Game Preview: Summerfield Rebels vs. Claiborne Christian Crusaders

Summerfield hasn't had much luck against Claiborne Christian recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Rebels will challenge the Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. Claiborne Christian took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Summerfield, who comes in off a win.

Summerfield took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Gibsland-Coleman a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Rebels have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Stormy Middleton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Ella Adkins and Kenlyn Babcock did most of the damage at the plate: Adkins scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Babcock scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Babcock a new career-high in RBI (two). Akeirah Jones was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Claiborne Christian fell victim to Choudrant and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 9-0 to the Aggies. The Crusaders haven't had much luck with the Aggies recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Summerfield pushed their record up to 10-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Claiborne Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.
