Softball Recap: West End's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Four

West End waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They blew past the Gaston Bulldogs 15-0. Considering the Patriots have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Braylee King was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Addie Pierce and DaLeigha Wheeler did most of the damage at the plate: Pierce went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Wheeler went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Pierce launched this season. Another player making a difference was Emma Franklin, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

West End lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

West End's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Gaston, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11-1 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. West End will welcome Susan Moore at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.5 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Gaston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Saks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.39 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
