Soccer Game Preview: Lely vs. Cypress Lake

The Lely Trojans will challenge the Cypress Lake Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lely is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 3.8 goals per game this season.

Lely is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Fort Myers just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. The two teams finished up on equal footing with a 2-2 draw. The result kept the Trojans happy, as they haven't lost a game since December 3, 2024.

Ty Collins and Angel Otero scored both of Lely's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 18 goals.

Meanwhile, Cypress Lake came up short against Parrish Community on Wednesday and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 449th, while the Bulls are ranked 100th).

Cypress Lake's loss dropped their record down to 4-14-3. Lely's draw gives them a new season record of 13-4-4.

Everything went Lely's way against Cypress Lake in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, as Lely made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lely since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
