After both having extra time off, the Hialeah Thoroughbreds and the Miami Beach Hi-Tides will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hialeah has given up an average of 8.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Hialeah came up short against Hialeah Gardens last Thursday, falling 15-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Miami Beach). Everything went their way against Jackson last Wednesday as Miami Beach made off with a 19-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Hi-Tides, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Maricela Mesarina made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Miami Beach got a massive performance out of Violet Badran, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four stolen bases, and five RBI. Those four stolen bases gave Badran a new career-high. Rebecca Baldi was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.
Miami Beach hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most three strikeouts in four consecutive matches.
Miami Beach pushed their record up to 8-2 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Hialeah, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Hialeah suffered a grim 13-7 defeat to Miami Beach in their previous matchup on March 6th. Will Hialeah have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
