Basketball Recap: Newman Smith Comes Up Short

Newman Smith lost to Lone Star back in December of 2025 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The matchup between the Trojans and the Rangers didn't end well, with the Trojans falling 48-31. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 714th, while the Rangers are ranked 96th).

Newman Smith has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-20 record this season. As for Lone Star, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-10.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Newman Smith is set to square off against their familiar foe Turner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lone Star will take on rival Highland Park at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
