Softball Recap: Edgerton Comes Up Short

Edgerton had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it four. They came up short against the Turner Trojans, falling 10-0. The Crimson Tide were not able to make up for their defeat to the Trojans from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Turner, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games.

For Turner's part, the result came thanks to Olyvia Piranio's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 12 Ks. Piranio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddy Hoenig, who went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Genna Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Edgerton will head out to challenge Lodi at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Blue Devils' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Crimson Tide's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Turner, they will head out on the road to square off against Waupun at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Trojans 2.4, the Warriors 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
